I’m Nicky Lyng and I write stories. I’ve been writing since I was seven years old, and I’ve had a couple of my books published. I’m pictured here, alongside my husband Tony, whom is the illustrator for my books.

I was born in Wales, a country famous for its love of song and storytelling, and later studied science at university in England. Though I trained as a teacher, my love for English and history always remained. Over the years I have been blessed with a big family — one daughter, six sons, sixteen grandchildren (two of whom, Bella and Valley, attend this school), and now three great-grandchildren. They inspire many of my stories, often without realising it, simply through the things they do and say.
I write because I love stories, and I hope that children and families everywhere will enjoy reading them as much as I enjoy writing them.
My Horton and Morton series is set in the big, rambling Bunglebury Hall and the nearby village of Bunbury by the canal. These stories follow Horton, Morton, and their friends as they share adventures and fun together.
Alongside the series, I am currently working on several other projects — including the tale of a girl who enters Fairyland through a magic cloud, and a heart-warming story about a snowman who has lost his nose. I often have many stories on the go at once, as I like to step back from a tale and return to it with fresh eyes, making changes until it is ready to share. Sometimes my characters even wake me up in the middle of the night, urging me to write their adventures before I forget them!
The inspiration for Horton and Morton first came to me while travelling in the north of England, where I came across a statue of boxing hares. From that moment, the characters seemed to spring to life and began telling their stories through me.
I hope you enjoy my stories and my site!
